WIRE JEWELLERY RINGS

I really enjoyed making these rings, some of the stones were bought in the Canary Island so the stones are unusual.

BLACK TUBULAR KNITTED NECKLACE

I really enjoyed making this necklace, it has a shell pendant and small white beads sown at intervals along the necklace. It also has a snazzy magnetic clasp which means when you want to close it around your neck, you just aim each end towards each other and it closes just like that!

FINE WIRE KNITTED CHOKER

With this choker I have used some fine wire knitted material sown onto a silver wire base and finished off with a large Italian glass pendant I bought on a recent trip to Rome.

GETTING DOWN TO IT!

I am always torn between painting and making my jewellery.

I was in Wales recently and spent a lot of time in craft shops and came back with some new ideas for my jewellery and decided to spend more time making new jewellery pieces than I have recently been doing and produced the items below - I really like the neck piece and bracelet to match and am happy with the results.

With painting and craft work, imagination and inspiration is always the hardest part!

These bracelets are knitted first and then sown onto a thick wire frame with an opening and will fit any size as they can be adjusted.

COPPER KNITTED WIRE CUFF

AT LONG LAST!

At long last I have finished the cuff I have been working on for some time, the photograph does not really do it justice. The wire is a lovely copper colour and it really looks rather well and I am pleased with the result.

Also at long last my clasps have arrived from Oz so I can now crack on with other types of jewellery. I have also, just by chance, discovered a site in England who have the same type of clasps in silver along with some very interesting fine wire

COMMISSION

Called in to see the lady who commissioned me to make the silver bracelet and found that she was very happy with it and had twisted it to suit, very interesting, I have asked her to call in to see me in the gallery so that I can see what she has done as she did not have it with her, you know what they say the customer is always right!

MY FAVOURITE

This is my favourite, red as I said, it is very comfortable to wear. It has no catches to snag in clothing and is very light,
I love red!

COLOURS

Decided to knit a few bracelets in other colours, blue seems to be the colour that people like this year and surprisingly green is very popular. Both bracelets are wide and are more like a cuff which is very comfortable, just slips onto the wrist. I love red myself and it is very tempting to knit more in red.

silver wire knitted bracelet

When you look at this, you think, plain, but therein hides a secret! There are four layers of close knitting and then stitched together paying close attention to the edges, a lot of work!
But - one satisfied customer - great!

commission finished

Finally finished the jewellery order I got a short while ago. There was quite a lot of knitting in it as I had to knit four layers in order to make the bracelet stiff which took some time to do. The catch was another problem, I spent many hours on the internet trying to source the catches I had in mind for this bracelet and finally found more or less what I wanted in Dublin! I have since found a site in Australia and have sent for some silver catches which have not arrived yet. There are some more ornate catches on the site but I will wait and see what arrives from my first order before I go mad and order more! Anyway my customer was delighted with the bracelet which made all the hard work worth it.

Now to the next project!

knitting

As you can see from the title of my blog, I knit jewellery.

I was rooting around on the internet one night when I couldn't sleep, and found an image of a knitted beaded cuff and really liked the look of it and thought I would really like one for myself, then had a second thought, I could make that! So I then began to produce jewellery.

It has been a long and interesting journey to this point and I am still learning and sourcing materials. I had not seen this type of jewellery in the shops so had to send away for books and patterns and it has been fascinating. The clasps and wire have been especially difficult to get as I want the finished product to look right and I think just recently I have found the clasps I want. Now I am going to try and source sterling silver wire. I knit with very fine wire but it is still very harsh on my hands but the results are pleasing.

I work part time in a gallery and often knit and am asked "what are you knitting?" I get some strange looks when I reply jewellery!
